Robert Montgomery has been a shareholder in the firm since its founding in 1965. He litigates primarily in the fields of medical, dental, hospital, accountant, and attorney malpractice, products liability, environmental, and insurance law.
He is general counsel for the Colorado Medical Society, a member of the International Association of Defense Counsel, past president of the Colorado Defense Lawyers Association, a member of the Litigation Council of the Colorado Bar Association, past chairman of the Negligence Section, and past chairman of the Colorado Chapter of the American Board of Trial Advocates.
He is a member of the American, Colorado, and Denver Bar Associations, the American Society of Medical Association Counsel, the Defense Research Institute, The American Society of Medical Association Counsel, and a Fellow and Colorado State Chair (1997-1999) of the American College of Trial Lawyers.
In addition to acting as lead counsel in many complex, high-exposure cases, he has frequently acted as a mediator to a conflict in settlement negotiations, as judge or arbitrator in alternative dispute resolution hearings, and as a "fair hearing" officer in hearings involving preservation of privileges or licenses of health care professionals.
He has taught and lectured widely at such places as the National Litigation Congress, the University of Denver College of Law, the University of Colorado School of Law, and the National Institute for Trial Advocacy.
