Professional Experience and Areas of Concentration
After graduating from the University of Colorado in 1955, Dan McGrew became a Certified Public Accountant and pursued a career in public accounting. The firm was a client of his accounting practice for many years. He attended law school and earned his juris doctorate in 1970 and joined the firm shortly thereafter. He has been a shareholder since 1974.
Since joining the firm in 1971 as an attorney with special interest in tax areas, Dan McGrew has handled legal matters ranging from tax and estate planning, tax consultation, tax litigation, wills and trusts to the probate of estates. With respect to tax planning, he prepares complex estate plans designed to protect and preserve assets and to avoid unnecessary tax liability by the creation of trusts such as family trusts, irrevocable life insurance trusts, charitable remainder trusts, wealth replacement trusts, qualified personal residence trusts, credit shelter trusts and marital deduction trusts. He also counsels clients on other strategies for the protection and preservation of assets and the avoidance of unnecessary tax liability.
Dan McGrew practices in all Colorado courts and the United States Tax Court. He also represents clients in negotiations with the Internal Revenue Service.
For many years he was a member of the Rocky Mountain Estate Planning Council and is a member of the Tax Section of the American Bar Association.
