  • Montgomery Little & Soran Welcomes New Attorneys on 02.01.2010:  Montgomery Little & Soran is pleased to announce that Jeffrey M. Leake, Nathan G. Osborn and Echo D. Ryan have joined the firm as associates.  Jeff Leake's practice will focus on construction law litigation.  Nate Osborn and Echo Ryan will practice in our litigation and business transactions groups.
  • Verdict in Favor of Employer In September 2009, Christopher A. Taravella and Michael R. McCormick tried an employment law case to a jury in the Douglas County District Court defending an international company providing audio and web conferencing services.  The employee's claim included a demand under the Colorado Wage Claim Act for wages and penalties, and damages for mental suffering.  The jury returned a favorable verdict for the employer and refused to award the employee any wages or penalties under the Wage Claim Act or any damages for mental suffering.
  • 5 Firm Lawyers Selected as Colorado Super Lawyers® 2009:  David Little, James Soran, Fred Skillern, Christopher Little and William Knapp were all honored as 2009 Super Lawyers®. Michael McCormick was named a Rising Star.
  • Attorney Honored:  Christopher Little is being awarded the Colorado Trial Lawyers' Association "Professionalism Award."  The award is given to a litigation lawyer "who has shown competency, ethics, and professionalism on behalf of his or her clients."
  • Defense Verdict:  The firm obtained a defense verdict in a hospital negligence case in Denver County District Court in January 2009.  Plaintiffs alleged that an improper medication was administered through an epidural catheter resulting in lower extremity paralysis in a nine-year-old boy.  The jury was convinced that the injury was caused not by a medication but by an evolving traumatic spinal cord injury and returned a verdict in less than one hour.
  • Defense Verdict:  The firm successfully defended a doctor in an ophthalmology medical malpractice trial in Douglas County District Court.  The case involved an alleged needle perforation of the eyeball during administration of anesthesia, and resulting loss of vision.  After a week long trial in August 2008, the jury returned a defense verdict in favor of the physician.
  • Verdict in Favor of Landlord:  The firm successfully represented a commercial landlord in a hotly contested eviction action. After a one-day trial, the client was awarded possession of the property.  A second trial to determine damages was conducted in September 2007.  The client was awarded nearly a quarter of a million dollars in damages for back rent, late fees, interest and renovation costs, plus its attorney fees and litigation costs.
  • Successful Verdict in Contested Foreclosure:  Fred Skillern assisted his client in obtaining a foreclosure order and the appointment of a receiver for several hundred acres of prime development land in Mesa County, Colorado after a two-day trial in Grand Junction during August 2007.  The complex dispute revolved around the enforceability of key provisions in the client's mortgage.
  • Little Speaks at Statewide Convention:  David Little spoke at the August 2007 annual meeting of the Colorado Defense Lawyer's Association in Snowmass, Colorado.  The CDLA is a statewide organization with more than 700 members. Dave presented a discussion on the updated Colorado Rules of Professional Conduct for lawyers.
  • Skillern Speaks at Real Estate Symposium:  Fred Skillern presented his annual update on legal developments in the area of real estate law at the 2007 Real Estate Symposium for CLE in Colorado.  The conference took place in July 2007 in Steamboat Springs, Colorado.
  • Firm Attorneys Contributing Authors to Upcoming Treatise on Colorado Construction Law:  In July 2007, several of the firm's construction law attorneys were asked to contribute to the upcoming revised volume of The Practitioner's Guide to Colorado Construction Law.  John Riley and Bill Searfoorce authored sections of the edition of the series, published by CLE In Colorado.
  • Intellectual Property Presentation to Chamber of Commerce: Christopher A. Taravella spoke to the South Metro Chamber of Commerce in May 2007. Chris discussed issues affecting small businesses in the areas of trademark, patent, and copyright law.
  • Dismissal of Claims Against Firm Client Upheld on Appeal:  In April 2007, the Colorado Court of Appeals upheld the trial court's order dismissing all claims for legal malpractice against a client represented by Christopher Little. Chris was able to get the claims dismissed due to the plaintiff's failure to comply with Colorado's certificate of review statute.
  • Trial Victory for General Contractor:  The firm defended a general contractor in a payment dispute in April 2007.  After a three-day trial, judgment was entered in favor of the firm's client on all claims together with an award of legal costs.
